Improves Investigation & Countermeasure Techniques and Evaluation & Control Methods

The GEPC accurately investigates, analyzes, and evaluates the state of contaminated sites and their impact on surrounding areas, and conducts studies on countermeasure techniques, control methods, and re-use of treated soil in order to offer the most efficient and economical measures.

Performs Study and Research in Japan and Overseas

The GEPC cooperates with a number of research institutes both in Japan and overseas, and participates in international conferences, and uses the information, findings, and materials obtained from these activities to form appropriate systems and site investigation and remediation techniques in Japan.

Conducts Awareness-Raising and PR Activities

The GEPC holds study meetings, seminars, and lecture meetings for the purpose of disseminating knowledge and techniques on soil and groundwater contamination. The GEPC also publishes reports that introduce the above activities and their outcomes, as well as a mail magazine.

Implements a Qualification System

The GEPC carries out the following work of granting qualifications to engineers and managers to help improve the reliability of soil and groundwater contamination investigations and remediation work.

1) Authorized Geo-Environmental Senior Engineer (Dojo-kankyo kanri-shi)

This qualification is granted to reliable senior engineers who have appropriate knowledge and judgment ability with respect to performing investigation and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination.

2) Authorized Geo-Environmental Engineer for Safety of Field Work (Dojo-kankyo hozen-shi)

This qualification is granted to reliable engineers who have the required skills for (1) Work safety, (2) Consideration for the environment (e.g., preventing dispersion of contamination), and (3) Quality control (ensuring the quality of field work).

3) Authorized Geo-Environmental Manager for Risk Management (Dojo-kankyo risk kanri-sha)

This qualification is granted to land managers who have basic knowledge for determining the state of contamination around a factory site in order to prevent soil and groundwater contamination and maintain and improve the asset value of land.

Provides a Control Manifest

At the request of the Japan Environment Association, which is the designated support corporation in the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Act, the GEPC provides a Control Manifest of contaminated soil for transport or processing to which contributions are added.
